Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be onshore in Australia at the time of application.
  2. Intend to reside in Sydney during the course of their candidature.
  3. Plan to enroll full-time in the MRes starting Session 2, 2026.

Who Is Not Eligible?

The following applicants will not be considered:

  • Individuals who have already completed a research degree at the same or higher level.
  • Applicants planning to defer the MRes program to Session 1, 2027.
  • Those who submit incomplete or misleading applications.

Applications cannot be carried over to future rounds; missing the deadline means you must reapply.

Selection Process

Macquarie University ranks applicants primarily on academic performance:

  • Weighted Average Mark (WAM) for current Macquarie graduates.
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) for graduates before 2020 or from other institutions.

Overseas qualifications are assessed using Australian Government guidelines to ensure equivalence with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Only the top-ranked applicants will receive the scholarship.
