We are pleased to announce the 2026 Travel Funding Program designed to support Master’s students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral fellows who wish to present their research, attend academic conferences, participate in workshops, or engage in scholarly collaboration opportunities. This initiative aims to reduce financial barriers and encourage early-career researchers to share their work, expand professional networks, and contribute to the global research community.
Purpose of the Program
The Travel Funding Program is intended to:
- Support emerging scholars in disseminating their research at national and international conferences.
- Foster academic collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement.
- Enhance professional development through participation in scholarly events.
- Provide equitable access to academic opportunities regardless of financial constraints.
By offering financial assistance for travel-related expenses, the program seeks to empower promising researchers and strengthen global academic exchange.
The Vanier Institute of the Family provides conference funding to master’s and doctoral students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, to support their participation in family science knowledge exchange.
Applications now open for 2026
We provide up to $750 in funding for master’s and doctoral students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, to present at conferences or attend workshops and courses. Research covered by this funding must relate to family diversities and wellbeing in Canada (for more information, see the Family Diversities and Wellbeing Framework). To encourage knowledge exchange with broader audiences, the event does not need to have a family-specific focus. Applicants must be actively participating by presenting (e.g., oral presentation, poster presentation, roundtable, or breakout discussion facilitator, etc.) at a conference or by attending a workshop or course. In exceptional circumstances, applicants may request funding exceeding $750: such requests must be clearly justified in the application. Funds may be used to cover costs related to travel, accommodation, meals, and conference, workshop, or course registrations. Please refer to the list of eligible and ineligible expenses.
